Local Melon and Watermelon Crop Populations to Moderate Yield Responses to Climate Change in North Africa

چکیده
Climate change is having a tremendous influence on world food production, with arid, semi-arid, and dry sub-humid areas especially susceptible. In these areas, locally adapted crop varieties or landraces can be used to mitigate the of climate current future security challenges. The high genetic diversity within populations allows for crops adapt changing environments other stresses that growth productivity. Thus, local Moroccan melon (Cucumis melo) watermelon (Citrullus lanatus) were compared pure-line in southwestern Morocco identify their adaptability possible ability change. Results indicated evaluated most likely could help yield losses from this area Morocco. ‘AitOulyad’, muskmelon type, ‘Rasmouka Ananas’ both outstanding plant vigor yields. For watermelon, ‘AitOulyad’ had extremely yields but numbers seed flesh, while ‘Rasmouka’ lower yield, fewer seeds higher fruit consistency. This research indicates semi-arid arid will continue play major role adaptation maintain productivity under rapidly environment.

Ensemble yield simulations: crop and climate uncertainties, sensitivity to temperature and genotypic adaptation to climate change
Estimates of the response of crops to climate change rarely quantify the uncertainty inherent in the simulation of both climate and crops. We present a crop simulation ensemble for a location in India, perturbing the response of both crop and climate under both baseline (12 720 simulations) and doubled-CO2 (171 720 simulations) climates. Some simulations used parameter values representing genot...
متن کاملWildfire responses to abrupt climate change in North America.
It is widely accepted, based on data from the last few decades and on model simulations, that anthropogenic climate change will cause increased fire activity. However, less attention has been paid to the relationship between abrupt climate changes and heightened fire activity in the paleorecord. We use 35 charcoal and pollen records to assess how fire regimes in North America changed during the...

We review recent research of importance to understanding crop and pasture plant species response to climate change. Topics include plant response to elevated CO(2) concentration, interactions with climate change variables and air pollutants, impacts of increased climate variability and frequency of extreme events, the role of weeds and pests, disease and animal health, issues in biodiversity, a...

the subject of a book. Several chapters describe environmental justice campaigns that have contributed directly to a broader sustainability agenda. For example, Faber and McCarthy discuss the campaign to eliminate the pesticide methyl bromide as a port fumigant in San Diego, California. Methyl bromide is a reproductive toxicant and an ozone depleting chemical, so it is significant both for loca...
